Since 2015, APTP’s Defund OPD committee has been leading the call to defund the police and invest in our communities. OPD takes almost HALF of Oakland's general fund each year, and that percentage has skyrocketed in the past two decades — consuming desperately needed resources from essential city programs and vital services.

The Black New Deal: Black Oakland Demands in Light of COVID-19 and Rates of Black Death
Across the country, Black People are being infected and dying at disportionate rates from COVID-19. In order to respond effectively to the needs of the Black community our elected officials, health experts, advocates and organizers must take a look at the ways in which the descendants of slaves, Black, African and African-Americans are most impacted by this virus through a racial and class lens.
MH First
MH First, a project of Anti Police-Terror Project, is a cutting-edge new model for non-police response to mental health crisis. The goal of MH First is to respond to mental health crises including, but not limited to, psychiatric emergencies, substance use support, and domestic violence situations that require victim extraction.
Oakland Police Reform
Until we can abolish the police, we’re pushing for effective police oversight in Oakland. We released a report on best practices for independent police oversight based on our legal research, input from impacted families, and lessons learned from the Oakland Police Commission.
